Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the Graduate Route, you must:

  • Hold a valid Student visa at the time of your application.
  • Have successfully completed an eligible course in the UK (degree level or higher).
  • Have studied at a licensed student sponsor (university or higher education provider) with a record of compliance.
  • Have completed the course while in the UK on a Student visa.

Eligible Courses

You can apply if you successfully complete one of the following:

  • UK bachelor’s degree.
  • UK master’s degree.
  • UK PhD or doctoral qualification.
  • Certain professional qualifications that meet the requirements.

Courses below degree level (such as foundation courses or language courses) do not qualify.

How Long Can You Stay

  • 2 years – for graduates of bachelor’s or master’s degrees.
  • 3 years – for graduates with PhDs or other doctoral qualifications.

This visa cannot be extended, but you may be able to switch into another route, such as:

  • Skilled Worker visa (with employer sponsorship).
  • Innovator Founder visa (if you want to start a business).
  • Global Talent visa (if you are a leader or potential leader in your field).

Dependants

  • You cannot bring new dependants on the Graduate Route.
  • However, if your partner or children were already in the UK as your Student visa dependents, they can extend their stay with you under the Graduate Route.

Application Process

  • Apply online before your student visa expires.
  • Pay the application fee: £822.
  • Pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS): £1,035 per year.
  • Provide biometric information (fingerprints and photo).

Most applications are processed within 8 weeks.
